LTHS Administration Cancels School Assembly Due To Safety Concern

Lyons Township High School administrators addressed safety concerns in a recent letter to parents and guardians of LTHS students.

LA GRANGE, IL — LTHS administration has cancelled an all school assembly planned for tomorrow. The administration addressed parents and families in a letter, stating the assembly was cancelled out of an abundance of caution.

"Our responsibility as educators is to ensure the physical, social, and emotional safety and well-being of our students and staff," the letter shared Thursday said. "It is out of an abundance of caution for our students' emotional well-being, as well as the nature of our current climate, that this decision has been made."

Lyons Township High School administrators addressed safety concerns in a recent letter to parents and guardians of LTHS students on Wednesday. Superintendent Timothy Kilrea and Principal Brian Waterman said the school received multiple Speak-Up reports, emails and phone calls expressing safety concerns.

"We believe our campuses are safe, and we are committed to keeping them that way," the letter stated.

Kilrea and Waterman said they are grateful our community is listening to the message of "if you hear something, say something."

"Please know that any information reported to the school is important and the district's administrative team will diligently follow up on each concern that is communicated," the letter read. "As always, we will communicate and cooperate with local law enforcement should the need arise. This is a process we have always followed, and one we will adhere to in the future."
