LTHS announces new Student Representative to the Board

Natalie Pabijan, Class of 2019, was named the 2018-2019 Student Representative to the Board of Education; her term begins in August.

Lyons Township High School’s Natalie Pabijan, Class of 2019 of LaGrange Highlands, was named the 2018-2019 Student Representative to the Board of Education. She starts her one-year term in August.

Pabijan says she makes lasting connections with those around her. She can negotiate and persist to reach her goals. She also knows when to compromise, creating alternative solutions to problems.
She is a member of Student Council, Marching Band, Drumline and Pep Band. She wrote the script for the All School Assembly and chaired and emceed the Mr. LT pageant. She was instrumental in this year’s Secret Santa, Holiday Write Night and Homecoming planning. Outside of school, she attends weekly Polish school and studies both piano and percussion.
Counselor Nicole Ziroli says, “Natalie has an outstanding work ethic and never backs down from a challenge. She thrives in pressure situations and is quick to think on her feet. She has shown resiliency, and her enthusiasm is contagious.”
The Student Representative to the Board was created 19 years ago and was designed to improve and increase student participation and presence in school operations. The position requires the liaison to have a broad view of the school and all aspects of the LTHS experience.
As student representative, Pabijan will have the dual responsibility of reporting to the Board of Education as well as to the students who she represents. She will be required to:

  • Attend all full Board meetings, serving as an advisory, non-voting member. She will be excluded from closed session discussion, as well as committee participation, unless otherwise directed.
  • Prepare and present a report for the Board on behalf of the student body.
  • Meet with the Superintendent prior to each Board meeting in preparation for items to be discussed.
  • Serve as a member of the Student Council Executive Board and attend weekly Executive Board meetings and monthly Council meetings.
  • Prepare and present a report for the Student Council on behalf of the Board of Education.
  • Attend committee meetings for either organization, as directed.
