LTHS Fantasy Game Club Sees Surge In Members

The Sailing Club, meanwhile, wants full group status at the high school.

LA GRANGE, IL – Lyons Township High School's Dungeons & Dragons Club is seeing a big increase in members.

Because of that, it is seeking a second adult sponsor, which would cost the school $1,400 more a year.

The number of members has increased to 60, double what it used to be, according to a memo from the school's stipend committee.

The group is now meeting weekly, rather than every other week.

According to the memo, the current club sponsor is training students to become Dungeon masters with the capability of leading their own games. The sponsor is hosting monthly "special gaming events."

In another request, the Sailing Club, which formed as a pilot last school year, is seeking a sponsor at a cost of $1,400 a year.

The club's members do not sail as part of the group's activities. Rather, they learn about baseline terminology, knot tying, safety on the water, basic sailing skills and advanced racing, among other things, according to a committee memo.

Now, the group wants full club status, meaning it would get a sponsor.

"Sailing Club meetings have facilitated deep friendships among members and helped members meet others passionate about sailing," the memo said.

The school board plans to review the requests Monday.
