LTHS finance students take 6th in state

Four Lyons Township High School students who took 6th place in the annual Illinois Personal Finance Challenge (IPFC) finals

Congratulations are in order for four Lyons Township High School students who took 6th place in the annual Illinois Personal Finance Challenge (IPFC) finals. The event was held at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. The IPFC is designed to recognize students who demonstrate high levels of comprehension and application of personal finance concepts and skills and to reward teachers for outstanding practices in teaching personal finance concepts.

All LT team members are seniors in Consumer Economics: senior Leah Molenda, of LaGrange, senior Charlie Heinz, of Western Springs, senior Will Bernstein, of Western Springs, and Emily Weibel, also of Western Springs, all participated in the state finals.

A total of 132 teams, comprised of approximately 500 students from 18 different schools/ organizations throughout the state, participated in the preliminary rounds. In order to qualify for the state finals, each team took an online test of 30 questions. The top team from each of five regions in the state, plus the next five highest-scoring teams in the state advanced to the state finals. LT placed among the top 10 teams in the state and qualified to compete in the state finals.

At the state competition, teams take a set of written tests to determine the finalists. The two teams with the highest team scores on three rounds of written tests advance to the final quiz bowl round, which concludes with the announcement of the first place team.
