LTHS Girls 'Inappropriately Dressed': Parent
Girls' attire can be distracting for young men, a mother told the school board.
WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – A Western Springs parent joined others this week in protesting grading policies at Lyons Township High School.
But Ellen Smith had another concern – the dress code for girls.
"I would like some sort of dress code," Smith told the school board Tuesday. "For me, being the mother of three boys, I find it is imperative that you reinforce some sort of policy. The way many girls in this school dress for class is inappropriate and is distracting for young men."

She said many male teachers "cannot say anything about how inappropriately dressed the girls are because they would probably be considered perverts."
Returning to the theme of her comments, Smith said, "I want LT to be great again."

The school board does not respond to public commenters.
The school's dress code includes few specifics, saying clothing selections should be "appropriate for the educational environment" and not disrupt learning.
"Students have the right to make clothing and accessory selections so that they feel comfortable and confident at school," the policy says.
Students are barred from wearing hats or head coverings of any kind, except those of established religious groups or those with medical exceptions.
They also cannot wear clothing that advertises gang membership, weapons, drugs, alcohol, tobacco products or other "inappropriate" activities.
