LA GRANGE, IL – The Lyons Township High School board this week extended Superintendent Brian Waterman's contract to 2028.

Under the contract, Waterman, who became superintendent two years ago, will get 3 percent annual raises. As of last year, Waterman's salary was $240,000. A 3 percent raise amounts to $7,200.

Waterman's predecessor, Timothy Kilrea, made $304,000 when he retired in 2021 after a decade at the helm.

After the unanimous vote for the agreement, school board President Kari Dillon praised Waterman's performance.

"You have demonstrated strong leadership, exceptional management skills and a genuine concern for the well-being of our school community," Dillon said.

She also credited Waterman with pushing forward equity efforts, developing the school's first strategic plan and expanding student services.

Board Vice President Alison Kelly, whose term ends next month, said the contract was an indication of the board's confidence in Waterman.

Waterman said he was humbled by the confidence placed in him.

"This work all happens with our leadership and staff," he said. "So by default, you are placing your confidence in our leadership team and our staff as well."

Waterman has been a school administrator for two decades. Starting in 2003, he was the assistant principal at Westmont High School for two years and then at Glenbard North High School for three. He was later the principal at Hinsdale South High School in Darien for six years.

Waterman was Lyons Township's principal for seven years.
