LTHS Mask Foes Fear Onset Of Marxism

One speaker said Black Lives Matter was a Marxist movement. The audience cheered her.

LA GRANGE, IL — Opponents of mask mandates came out in force at this week's Lyons Township High School board meeting. They said such rules were a sign that ideologies such as Marxism and fascism could take hold.

They also said the school board was helping the government control every aspect of people's lives. During public comments, an appreciative audience cheered on the speakers.

"Our human rights and the rights of our children have been squashed and destroyed by our own government under the disguise of a global pandemic," resident Dessi Marinov said. "What grieves my heart the most is that our public schools are allowing it to happen. I want to inform you that the methods of our public schools are using to take our parental rights and the freedom of our children are exactly the same methods that a communist regime uses to control and rule the population."

She said Marxism and communism have been poisoning schools and universities for decades.

"By the way, the Black Lives Matter movement is a Marxist movement," Marinov said.

The audience cheered, though someone apparently objected.

"Woo!" Marinov said. "Take your chill pill. It's the truth."

Janelle Towne, another resident, said Marinov's speech was "incredible." Such things as mask mandates, Towne said, are an agenda "ordered at the very top by elitists drunk with power and using their minions to carry it out."

She said she did not understand how anyone could not see what she considered the lies, misinformation and hypocrisy by elected officials, who she said were taking part in a "sinister agenda."

"These kids are going to grow up, and they'll remember you, they'll remember us, and they'll know who stood up for them and who didn't," Towne told the board. "I'm not being dramatic. I'm merely trying to get you to think outside the box."

One of the others speakers was Bill, who declined to give his last name. He referred to federal CDC official Anthony Fauci as "Dr. Fakey" and referred to the "plandemic," which is the name of a 2020 conspiracy theory video.

In his comments, Bill compared pandemic regulations to Nazism.

"Our kids are suffering. Our kids are being tortured. And these people are going along with it because they're told," he said.

He said officials were essentially saying, "We're just following orders."

"Where have we heard that before? We're just following orders," Bill said, using a German accent. "Nuremberg."

He was referring to the military tribunals for Nazi leaders after World War II.

The board did not respond to the public commenters.
