LTHS Scholastic Bowlers strike success

Lyons Township High School Scholastic Bowl Team recently competed at the Class 3A Masonic Academic Bowl Sectional Tournament at Fenton.

The Lyons Township High School Scholastic Varsity Bowl Team recently competed at the Class 3A Masonic Academic Bowl Sectional Tournament at Fenton High School. LT played six matches against other high schools in the area. Matches include toss-up and bonus questions for a variety of topics, including history, science, literature, and fine arts. LT placed 4th at the tournament.

Scholastic Bowl is a fast-paced game similar to Jeopardy played by teams. Each team consists of five players, and the players try to "buzz in" more quickly than the other team when a toss-up question is read. If the player answers correctly, his or her team gets ten points and an opportunity to answer a three-part bonus question worth up to thirty points. The team then has 10 seconds per question to talk amongst themselves about the answers to each part of the question. If a player answers incorrectly, the other teams get an opportunity to answer the toss-up. A match consists of about 24 toss-up and bonus questions and the team with the most points at the end of the match wins.

Congratulations to LT’s 4th place finishers:
