LA GRANGE, IL – The Lyons Township High School board this week agreed to settle a claim from a student's family for $140,000.

School board member Michael Thomas was the lone dissenting vote. He did not explain his reasoning.

The family is represented by the Chicago-based Action Injury Law Group.

The group describes itself as a civil rights firm that is "advancing justice."

It says on its website, "Action is dedicated to bringing justice to victims of police brutality in pursuit of nationwide reform."

The firm includes photos of its managing partner, Andrew Stroth, with Gov. J.B. Pritzker, civil rights leader Jesse Jackson and a younger Barack Obama.

Patch has filed a public records request for the claim that prompted the settlement.
