LTHS Test Scores Drop Again: State

The school has seen declines on the SAT in math and English language arts in the last five years, state figures show.

LA GRANGE, IL – Lyons Township High School students' scores on the SAT dropped again last school year in English language arts, according to the latest numbers.

On Thursday morning, the Illinois School Board of Education released SAT numbers for the entire state.

Lyons Township High continues its five-year trend of falling scores.

Last school year, 49 percent of 11th graders met or exceeded standards on the English language arts part of the SAT. That is down from 54 percent in 2021 and 60 percent in 2019. In 2017, 65 percent met or exceeded standards.

As for math, 53 percent of Lyons Township High's 11th graders met or exceeded standards on the SAT. That's up from 51 percent in 2021, but down from 59 percent in 2018 and 65 percent in 2017.

Statewide, 30 percent of 11th graders met or exceeded standards on the English language section of the SAT last year, dropping from 33 percent in 2021. In 2017, the statewide rate was 40 percent.

In math, 29 percent of students statewide met or exceeded standards in 2022, the same percentage as the year before. From 2017 to 2019, the rate ranged from 34 percent to 36 percent.

Wealthy schools such as Lyons Township High typically beat state averages.
