Nazareth Student Receives Congressional Award

Her drawing will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for the next year alongside the winning pieces from across the country.

LA GRANGE PARK, IL — Congressman Dan Lipinski has named Nazareth Academy freshman Gianna Imbarrato as the Third District’s winner of this year’s Congressional Art Competition. Imbarrato used chalk to draw Illinois’ state butterfly, the Monarch, resting on a pink Zinnia.

Her drawing will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for the next year alongside the winning pieces from
congressional districts from across the country, and she will receive two round-trip tickets for the exhibition
opening this summer in Washington, D.C., according to Lipinski's office.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen chalk used so effectively,” Lipinski said in a release. “Using shadows and a blended background to show depth, it took Gianna four months to create this beautiful image in meticulous detail."

Imbarrato, of Willow Springs, is a well rounded artist, the school said. She also sings in Nazareth’s Choir and was a cast member in the recent production of "High School Musical."
