Senator Nybo part of escort committee for Governor's first 'State of the State'

State Sen. Chris Nybo was a member of the escort committee for Gov. Bruce Rauner's first 'State of the State' address Feb. 4.

SPRINGFIELD – State Sen. Chris Nybo (R-Elmhurst) issued a statement about Gov. Bruce Rauner’s first “State of the State” address, presented to a joint session of Illinois lawmakers Feb. 4 in the House of Representatives chambers.

“It’s clear that Gov. Rauner has a plan. We’re learning more about it. I can’t wait to see the specific proposals that he needs assistance with in the Legislature,” Nybo said. “He’s got a plan to get our economy back on track, to get our budget under control, and at the same time to direct more money to our schools. Education is the most important thing we do in our state. I think he can accomplish a lot. I think he is looking for partners. I am excited to be one of those partners and I am ready to get to work.”

Sen. Nybo was a member of the committee of lawmakers who escorted Gov. Rauner into the House chambers to present his State of the State address. After the speech, Sen. Nybo said he is ready to roll up his sleeves and get to work with Gov. Rauner and his fellow lawmakers to restore Illinois’ business climate and boost jobs creation.

“He led with workers’ comp. Any business person you talk with will tell you that workers’ comp is the most frustrating issue they deal with. In 2011, we made some progress but everybody admitted we didn’t go far enough,” Nybo said. “I have some direct experience and understanding of that issue. I think businesses all across the state will be excited to see what he wants to do with respect to workers’ compensation.”

Gov. Rauner will present his Budget Address on Feb. 18.
