Senator Nybo presents Harry Sawyer for gubernatorial appointment

Sen. Chris Nybo presented Harry Sawyer of Lombard for appointment as Assistant Director of the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs.

SPRINGFIELD – State Sen. Chris Nybo (R-Elmhurst) presented Harry Sawyer of Lombard to the Senate Executive Appointments Committee on May 25, for his gubernatorial appointment as Assistant Director of the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

Sawyer started his career with the Veterans’ Administration in 1982 as a Veterans’ Service Officer, becoming North Division Supervisor in 1998. He currently serves as Senior Public Service Administrator of Veterans’ Affairs as a manager of Field Services. He manages 80 field locations and holds accreditation with the United States Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

“It is my privilege to present Harry Sawyer of Lombard to serve as Assistant Director of the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs,” Nybo said. “It is especially a honor to do so on Memorial Day where the service of all of our veterans is honored in a special way.”

Sawyer served in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1970, when he was honorably discharged. He is a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.

The Executive Appointments Committee voted unanimously to approve Sawyer’s gubernatorial appointment as Assistant Director of the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs and sent its recommendation to the full Senate for further action.
