Serving People, Not Special Interests

Let's keep big money out of IL-3

This district deserves a leader whose influence isn’t up for sale, and who can be a dependable voice for everyone, even our most voiceless.

That’s why I am refusing corporate money in my campaign for Congress. I am relying on grassroots support and donations from people like you and me. When I speak, you can count on the fact that I am speaking for you and not big business.

I’m not running so I can go to Washington and stand in for corporations. I’m running so I can stand for working families. I’m running to create opportunities for young people through 21st century job training and opening access to affordable college. I’m running to stand up to insurers and pharmaceutical companies that are more interested in their bottom line than making healthcare affordable for millions of Americans.

In the years since the Supreme Court’s decision on Citizens United, corporate money has corrupted our political system and made our representatives dependent on big money. We need to bring back accountability, and to do that we need to take action to reverse the destructive effects of Citizens United.

As long as representatives and candidates’ election and re-election prospects can be determined by mega donors funneling tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars at the drop of a hat, our political system will fail to effectively represent those it’s intended to.

This fight isn’t just about my campaign. It’s about representation. The need for campaign finance reform isn’t a partisan issue, it’s a democratic issue.

For decades, inequality has soared in this country as those at the top scoop up earnings and take more and more power from working class folks. This is about making your elected leaders work for you, the voter.

And if given the privilege to serve, you can depend on me working for you.
