LA GRANGE, IL – Lyons Township High School announced that it is moving forward with extracurricular sports and activities Tuesday.

This decision was made because of an expected increase in temperatures, Superintendent Brian Waterman said in a public statement.

The temperature is 1 degree now and will remain around that temperature for the rest of the day, with wind speeds about the same, the Weather Channel reports.

The temperature feels like negative 19 now and is expected to feel that way through the evening, according to the channel.

In his statement, Waterman said attendance at the events is not mandatory because of the weather.

But he said students not planning to attend are urged to inform their coaches and sponsors as soon as possible.

Because of the weather, students are attending class remotely Tuesday. But the school plans to resume in-person learning Wednesday.

"Please plan to dress accordingly and be prepared as the weather continues to be challenging," Waterman said.
