St. Francis Xavier School Success in Kindergarten
St. Francis Xavier promotes the education of the whole child. They value the importance of socialization as much as academic success.
“In early childhood you may lay the foundation of poverty or riches, industry of idleness, good or evil, by the habits to which you train your children. Teach them right habits then, and their future life is safe.”
– Lydia Sigourney
Saint Francis Xavier believes kindergarten must not only provide a strong academic foundation, but also instill a true love of learning.

Their program implements curricula aligned with the Common Core State Standards. Literacy, math, science and social studies are taught along with music, art, and physical education classes. Promoting the education of the whole child, socialization is valued as highly as academic success. Teachers embrace the belief that learning occurs in the contexts of relationships with teachers, peers, and families. Kindergarten teacher Ms. Corrigan shares, “We set high expectations for students, but build confidence and comfort within the school environment. With a heavy emphasis on differentiating instruction to meet all needs of students, we seek to foster a love of learning. Our goal is for students to want to come back to school each day, and each year.”
St. Francis Xavier’s kindergarten program approaches academic skills in accordance with our students’ developmental trajectories. Educators take a hands-on, play-based, interactive approach to learning to optimize academic and social connections in the classroom. Their instructional approach begins with laying a strong foundation of skills. Throughout the year, teachers continuously guide and challenge students to apply these skills. By year-end, students are confident learners ready to successfully step into first grade.
