Take the family to see The Greeks this Winter Break

The Field Museum's limited-time exhibition The Greeks draws from 21 museums throughout Greece

Few cultures draw on the public’s imagination like ancient Greece. The mix of history and mythology ensure that something in the culture will be of interest to every family member. The Field Museum’s new exhibition, The Greeks, ”draws from the collections of 21 museums throughout Greece, making it the largest exhibition of its kind to tour North America in 25 years.”

The exhibition takes on 5,000 years of Greek history and culture through individual stories. Ranging from ”its origins in Neolithic villages through its expansion during the conquests of Alexander the Great,” the exhibition contains more than 500 artifacts. This is the first time many have been displayed outside of Greece including enigmatic stone figurines from the Cycladic Islands, gold funerary masks from Bronze Age tombs, marble statues of Greek poets

Of course while you at the Field Museum, you can visit all your favorite exhibits from the man-eating lions to the gem collection. There is also a wonderful children’s area for younger kids. It’s a great way to keep everyone entertained during Winter Break.
