Tate's Open Again With New (and Delicious) Flavors

Tate's Old Fashioned Ice Cream, and area favorite, opened March 1 and introduced a few new flavors. Find out what they are and when you can find free-scoop coins around town.

How's this for a treat? Tate's Old Fashioned Ice Cream Shop in La Grange is back open!

Owner Maria Marciniec opened the doors for the area favorite last Friday, March 1, a bit earlier than normal. She said it's because she's gotten so many calls requesting birthday parties.

"I love it because I can see everyone again," Marciniec said. "You have a birthday party, you can come here. You go to the dentist, you come here, or the doctor, you come here. You win a game, you come here. You lose a game and you come here!"

I was one of the people to stop in on opening day, conveniently enough after a dentist appointment that morning. Marciniec is introducing a few new flavors this year, and I tried one of them: a blueberry-raspberry cheesecake ice cream. It was delicious!

Watch the video above for more of the new flavors Tate's will be making on-site this year, and read on to see Marcinec's list of the most-requested flavors.

Every year, Marciniec hides wooden coins hidden at parks in La Grange and La Grange Park; finding one gets you a free scoop of ice cream. Marciniec wanted to let people know they aren't hidden yet, but will likely be "after we can see green grass for good."
