Unexpected $190K Repair At LTHS

LA GRANGE, IL – The project to add more air conditioning to Lyons Township High School's South Campus is likely to get a lot more expensive.

While installing a new chiller, a contractor discovered that the existing one, which will run in tandem with the new unit, needs several repairs, according to a school memo. That includes the replacement of a compressor and technical upgrades.

The repairs are estimated at $190,000,

The project needs to be completed as soon as possible for the efficient cooling of the campus' B and C wings, Brian Stachacz, director of business services, said in the memo.

As such, Stachacz is asking that the school board on Monday approve an emergency exemption for the project, letting the school proceed without getting bids.

Because of this, the measure must be approved by three-fourths of the board, rather than the usual simple majority.

Patch has left a message with school officials about the original cost of the project.
