LA GRANGE, IL – Jill Grech presided over her first meeting Tuesday night as Lyons Township High School's board president.

In the morning, Dawn Aubert, who became board president last spring, had informed the school that she was resigning effective immediately. The school said she planned to move out of state.

"This turn of events was unexpected," Grech said at the beginning of the board meeting. "But I promise to give it my all. I want to especially thank everyone sitting around this table."

She credited the administration for "unwavering calm and support in navigating this change."

Both Aubert and Grech were elected in 2021.

Aubert's departure is already having a big effect. At the meeting, most members said they wanted to halt any effort toward selling the school's Willow Springs property until after Aubert's seat is filled. The application deadline is April 19.

Grech praised Aubert's service, calling her predecessor "student-centric" and detail-oriented.

"She leaves big shoes to fill," Grech said.

Grech said Aubert would be honored at the school board's April 15 meeting.

Also at that meeting, the board is expected to choose a new vice president, the position Grech held before taking the helm.

Real estate websites indicate that Aubert's La Grange Park house has not been put up for sale.
