LA GRANGE, IL – La Grange plans to undertake a bigger street patching program than usual later this summer.

The new village strategy, an official said, fits between its large-scale street projects and its limited in-house patching.

The village's in-house program cannot resolve all issues and provides only temporary relief, Rick Colby, the village's public works director, said in a memo.

With the enhanced patching program, the village is hiring a contractor to handle the work.

During Monday's Village Board meeting, Trustee Beth Augustine asked whether that meant the village would be able to eliminate all of its potholes. She noted the village would combine the equivalent of two years of patching budgets into one year.

Colby said the program would patch about 7,700 square yards over 20 blocks.

"I can't say it's everything, but I do think it's going to be our worst areas that are on our radar," he said. "Otherwise, they wouldn't be addressed until the 26-27 fiscal year timeframe. We should be able to get some of the benefit now."

The board chose the low bidder, Cicero-based M&J Asphalt Paving Co., which came in at $350,000. The other four companies were close behind, which Colby said indicated a competitive market.

The work is expected to start in August and be substantially completed in September, according to Colby's memo.
