Work Scheduled at O'Hare Toll Plazas on I-294

Daily lane closings during off-peak travel hours.

Work to complete toll plaza improvements at the O’Hare Toll Plazas on the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) will continue the week of March 23, with daily lane closures during off-peak hours near the O’Hare East Toll Plaza and the O’Hare West Toll Plaza.

Drivers will continue to have access to I-PASS or Pay Online lanes and automatic coin machine lanes at both toll plazas throughout construction, and all work is scheduled to be complete by summer. Electronic message signs will be put in place in advance to alert drivers to lane closures.

O’Hare East Toll Plaza (Plaza 32)

Beginning the week of March 23, construction at the O’Hare East Toll Plaza located on the ramp carrying traffic from northbound I-294 to River Road and I-190, will begin with daily, off-peak lane closures scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.for electrical work. Only one lane will be closed at a time for this work.

In April, work at the O’Hare East Toll Plaza will require extended single lane closures for pavement reconstruction and work. The I-PASS or Pay Online and automatic coin machine lanes will remain open during construction.

Work scheduled at the O’Hare East Toll Plaza includes pavement repairs for the two outside lanes and pavement reconstruction for the two inside lanes. In addition, toll equipment and electrical improvements are scheduled, as well as drainage improvements at all four toll collection lanes. All work is scheduled to be complete this summer.

O’Hare West Toll Plaza (Plaza 31)

During the week of March 23, daily, off-peak lane closures will resume from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the O’Hare West Toll Plaza located on the ramp carrying traffic from southbound I-294 and the eastbound Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) to I-190. Only one lane will be closed at a time.

The single lane closures are needed to complete electrical work and toll equipment improvements at the O’Hare West Toll Plaza. The majority of the work, including pavement repairs, was completed in 2014. This work will be done during off-peak hours to minimize the impact on traffic and is scheduled to be completed by the end of April.
