Police said they pulled over a silver Honda that had been driving with no lights on. They identified Chavez as the registered owner and found his active arrest warrant. As police walked up to the Honda and the driver rolled down the window, officers smelled alcohol from inside the vehicle right away.
Police asked him to agree to a field sobriety test and he did. As a result of the test, officers determined Chavez was impaired and charged him with DUI. Police also searched Chavez and found a bag with less than 10 grams of marijuana in it, so he was issued a local ordinance citation for possession of cannabis and taken to the hospital to be tested for drugs. Chavez was released on a $3,000 bond ahead of a Nov. 17 court date in Waukegan.
