3 Clowns Threatened to Kill Kids at School in Waukegan

Children at Greenwood Elementary School told police one of the men had a knife and another had a gun during recess Tuesday afternoon.

WAUKEGAN, IL - Three people dressed in clown masks taunted and threatened children at Greenwood Elementary School in Waukegan with weapons Tuesday afternoon.

Police there say they responded to the school at 1:50 p.m. for a clown sighting. Children at the school said that during recess the three clowns stood at the edge of the school property and taunted them. One had a knife, another was carrying a briefcase and the third had a gun in his pocket.

The children all said the three threatened to return Friday and kill them.

Police checked the area, but found no suspects. The school was placed on a brief lockdown.

The incident is being taken "very seriously" by police.

Waukegan police will be providing extra watches during patrol shifts at all area schools for the time being.
