Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that there was an active fire in the attic space above the garage. The homeowners informed the firefighters that their family pets were still inside the home.

LFFD safely rescued the family's two dogs and cat and no injuries were reported.

Due to the size and complexity of the incident, LFFD called for additional personnel and resources from nearby jurisdictions. The fire department was assisted by the Deerfield, Highland Park, Lake Bluff, Libertyville, Mundelein, Countryside, Lincolnshire, Grayslake, and North Chicago fire departments.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
