Beach Hazard Advisory In Effect Until Friday Morning

Warning issued for cold water, strong winds and possible rip currents.

A beach hazard advisory is in effect for Lake and Cook counties in Illinois as well as Lake and Porter counties in Indiana until 4 a.m. Friday due to cold water, strong winds and dangerously high waves that could result in strong rip currents.

The city of Chicago’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications issued the warning Thursday as northeast winds are expected to flow across the water and bring high waves to the southwestern shores of Lake Michigan, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Winds could gust up to 25 mph out of the northeast, resulting in dangerous swimming conditions, waves up to five feet high and strong rip currents.
