Caucus-Backed City Council Candidate Challenged By Rail Foe

LAKE FOREST, IL — Only one independent is running against the Lake Forest Caucus' slate of nominees in any race for City Council or school board in the April 2 municipal elections. JoAnn Desmond is challenging the Caucus pick of Ara Goshgarian to represent the 3rd Ward, the Lake Forester reported.

Caucus backed-candidates are unopposed for all other school board and municipal posts. George Pandeleon is the sole candidate seeking to replace Mayor Rob Lansing, who is stepping down after one term. Candidates for 1st, 2nd and 4th ward alderman are all running without an opponent. In District 67, Richard Chun, Justin Engelland and Suzanne Sands are running for three open seats, while John Noble, Dewey Winebrenner and Jenny Zinser are running for three seats on the Lake Forest High School District 115 board.

Goshgarian, 57, and Desmond, 71, each sought the backing of the Lake Forest Caucus to replace outgoing 3rd Ward Ald. Jack Reisenberg, according to Pioneer Press.

Goshgarian is an orthodontist, the vice-president of the Friends of Lake Forest Parks and Recreation Foundation board and has worked with members of the City Council on the renovation of the Deerpath Golf Course.

Desmond, a former school superintendent and president of the the Academy Woods Homeowners Association, has been a leading organizer of ACTION, the Alliance to Control Train Impacts on Our Neighborhoods, which mobilized against a proposal for rail expansion around the west Lake Forest Metra station.
