Cherokee Elementary School fourth grader Carleigh Keenan was awarded the Daniel K. Jaekel Heart of Gold award during their Fourth Grade Music Program.The award, given in memory of Jaekel - a former Cherokee student always described as positive, funny and a good friend - is presented every year to a fourth grader who demonstrates compassion, fellowship, congeniality, fairness and charitable respect. According to a Chicago Tribune obituary, <a href="http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2005-11-24/news/0511240054_1_il-loving-memorial" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">Jaekel died suddenly</a> at age 11 in 2005. --Pictured with Carleigh Keenan are LFHS students who were friends and fellow classmates of Daniel Jaekel.
