Community collaboration key to our regional success

Last Friday morning I had the pleasure to join Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering, Lake County Community Foundation board member former State Sen. Susan Garrett and over a hundred community leaders who gathered at Highland Park Country Club over breakfast to learn about a unique collaboration between Kalamazoo Valley Community College and Bronson Healthcare system in western Michigan.  The $42 million project will serve as a catalyst to bring sustainable agriculture, a university of health and science and mental health and substance abuse services to a 6-county region.

Kalamazoo's experiences illuminated for attendees the need for these types of partnerships between what otherwise might be known as “the unusual suspects.”  The presentation demonstrated how a diverse array of organizations can each bring strengths to a collaboration that can have incredible capacity and transformational potential in a community with a magnitude none could have managed on their own.

As a sponsor of this and many other gatherings designed to share knowledge, spark collective innovation and deepen disparate organizations' ties, The Lake County Community Foundation thrives on bringing together those who are invested in our regions' growth.

About The Lake County Community Foundation

Since 2003, The Lake County Community Foundation, an affiliate of The Chicago Community Trust, has partnered with donors to leverage and guide their philanthropy to help transform the lives of the most vulnerable people across our county. Together, we have contributed over $2.5 million to 80 nonprofit organizations that support basic human needs, community development, education and health throughout Lake County. By connecting the generosity of donors across Lake County with the most pressing needs of the community, we ensure that our county thrives today and for generations to come.
