LAKE FOREST, IL — Investigators suspect they have identified a person of interest in the burglary of more than half a dozen dorm rooms last month at Lake Forest College, police said.

On the afternoon of Feb. 10, security cameras captured images of the man entering Moore Hall and walking from room to room, spending a few minutes in each one he was able to enter, according to Lake Forest police.

"The video shows he walked in behind another student. The doors are normally secure, they normally have to get in with a key fob or a key," Deputy Chief Rob Copeland said. "So we were able to kind of track him through the dorm in the video."

At least nine dorm rooms were burglarized, and an Apple laptop valued at $1,700 and about $1,000 in cash have been reported stolen, police reported.

The person of interest shown in the security video is believed to be about 5 feet, 5 inches and between 225 and 225 pounds, according to police. Images from the video show the man wearing New York Yankees baseball hat and a DKNY jacket. Police said he left in a dark-colored four-door sedan.

After police shared images from the security video with other agencies and on social media, several sources said they recognized the man, Copeland said.

No warrant has been issued in the case, but investigators are seeking to interview a resident of the North Chicago area in connection with the incident, according to the deputy chief.

"We're trying to locate him so we can talk to him," he said.
