Donations Will Help Clear McClory Bike Path in Lake Forest
Invasive species will be removed from the edges of a two-mile stretch of the path.

About $20,000 in donations will be used to remove invasive species along the outer edges of the McClory bike path in Lake Forest.
ComEd and Chicago-based conservation group Openlands teamed for a $10,000 donation to pay for work on the two-mile stretch of the path between Illinois and Old Elm roads, according to the Lake Forester. That donation will be matched by one from the Lake Forest Garden Club and Lake Forest Open Lands Association.

“We’re cutting out a lot of invading things like buckthorn, honeysuckle and black locust,” said Chuck Myers, superintendent of parks and forestry for the City of Lake Forest. “In the fall or spring we’ll also do some seeding. We are trying to restore it to the way it was originally before European settlers came and started disturbing it.”
