LAKE FOREST, IL — The following information comes from the Lake Forest Police Department as a record of those arrested by police. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges, which represent merely accusations by the state, are often dropped or reduced. All persons named are innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

HOME BURGLARY

Police responded to a residence in the 700 block of Deerpath around 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 25 after the homeowner reported a residential burglary at that location. Officers discovered the unknown offenders likely made entry through an unlocked door and subsequently stole jewelry and other items from the residence after searching the master bedroom and other areas. Police are following up on the investigation.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 25-year-old Gurnee man was arrested at 9:39 p.m. on Jan. 19 and charged with driving with a suspended license after police on routine patrol conducted a traffic stop on a white Ford sedan and soon realized the driver's license had been suspended.

Macarlo Gonzalez, 42, of the 500 block of Elmwood Avenue, Waukegan, was arrested at 6:24 p.m. on Jan. 27 near the intersection of Western and Vine avenues and charged with driving under the influence. Police had been called to the area of Westleigh Road and Western Avenue for a driving complaint about burgundy Ford Explorer reported to be driving erratically, in the opposite lane of traffic and without any active headlights. Police were able to locate and stop the vehicle near Western Avenue and Vine. When officers approached the vehicle and spoke to the driver, Gonzalez, they immediately smelled the odor of alcohol and observed Gonzalez was showing visual signs of impairment. Police asked him to get out of the car for several standard field sobriety tests. Based on Gonzalez’s driving, the officer’s observations, and Gonzalez’s performance on the field sobriety tests, he was arrested for DUI.

Keith Wheeler, 32, of the 6200 block of West 63rd Street, Chicago, was arrested at 11:38 p.m. on Jan. 28 near the intersection of West Deerpath Road and Chiltern Drive and charged with driving under the influence of drugs, possession of a concealed firearm while intoxicated and possession of cannabis. Police on routine patrol responded to a call about a disabled vehicle in the area of Deerpath and Chiltern, where they found a black Chrysler sedan with its left front tire missing and a driver who appeared to be "unconscious and slumped on the steering wheel." Officers were unable to wake the man and later forced entry into the car. After gaining entry to the vehicle, officers smelled the odor of alcohol and marijuana in the vehicle. While checking the driver, cops found a loaded handgun in a holster on his hip. Officers conducted field sobriety tests and due to the observations of the officers on scene and Wheeler’s performance on the tests, he was arrested for diving under the influence of drugs, possession of cannabis, and possession of a concealed firearm while intoxicated.

Maria M. Fox, 47, of the 1700 block of East Summit Court, Deerfield, was arrested shortly before midnight on Jan. 31 near the intersection of Waukegan and Old Mill roads and charged with driving under the influence. Police on routine patrol noticed a white GMC Arcadia violate several traffic laws while heading south on Waukegan Road. Police pulled the vehicle over. While speaking the to the driver, police "immediately smelled the odor of alcohol" emanating from her asked her to complete several field sobriety tests. Based on the officer’s observations and results of the field sobriety tests, Fox was arrested for driving under the influence and taken to the Public Safety Building for processing, where she produced a breath sample resulting in a reading of 0.099.
