Ferris Fest Says 'Danke Schoen' to Chicago With a Parade (VIDEO)
The 3-day event celebrated the 30th anniversary of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" throughout Lake Forest, Northbrook and other film locations.
In Ferris Bueller's Day Off, the classic John Hughes film that was released 30 years ago this summer, a school secretary famously describes how the title character has earned such an esteemed reputation among his classmates at his fictional alma mater of Shermer High School:
"Well, he's very popular. … The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wasteoids, dweebies, d--kheads—They all adore him. They think he's a righteous dude."
And this weekend's Ferris Fest proved that her description of Ferris applies to all those real-life movie-goers who have been enchanted by arguably the world's most popular and beloved truant.

In honor of the film's 30th anniversary, Ferris Fest's three-day celebration brought together fans who caught the movie when it originally came out in theaters in 1986 with a younger generation who experienced it thanks to home video.

Some of the weekend activities included:
- a two-day bus tour of film locations in Lake Forest, Northbrook, Chicago and other communities
- film screenings and a 1986-style high school dance with cast members (including Eddie McClurg, the woman who delivered that righteous description of Ferris)
- a detailed re-creation of Ferris' bedroom
The event even included re-enactments of famous scenes with the help of event lookalikes:
And in some cases, fans participated in re-creating movie moments.

The celebration's capper, however, was a re-staging of the Von Steuben Day Parade on Sunday in downtown Chicago, complete with a faux-Ferris lip syncing "Twist and Shout" from a float.
