Fleeing Shoplifters Found In Bathroom, Behind Dumpster: Blotter

Crashed driver was high on opioids, adult bought kids booze, charged with battery: Lake Bluff-Lake Forest police blotters, Jan. 12 - Jan. 31

LAKE FOREST-LAKE BLUFF, IL — The following information comes from the Lake Forest and Lake Bluff police departments and court records as a record of those arrested by police. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges, which represent merely accusations by the state, are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Circuit Clerk of Courts. All persons named are innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

ARRESTS

Dontrell M. Cortez, 20, of the 2700 block of West Maypole Avenue, Chicago, and Ladarius P. Ferguson, 26, of the 1400 block of North Linder Avenue, Chicago, were arrested shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 12 by Lake Bluff and Lake Forest police officers responding to a report of shoplifting from the Target, 975 Rockland Road. Officers said both men initially provided false names. Staff told police Cortez had entered the store and asked if the store had any "good laptops," explaining that he was a "music artist." When the employee opened a display case, police said Cortez grabbed multiple iPads and fled the store. Cortez was charged with two felony counts of retail theft and driving with a suspended license. He was also issued a citation for driving without lights when required after police reported he fled the scene, crashed into a snow bank and was later apprehended after hiding behind a dumpster. Ferguson, who was later located after locking himself in a restaurant bathroom, was charged with obstructing identification and active arrest warrants originating from DeKalb, DuPage and LaSalle counties.

Michael V. Kaprelian, 33, of the 700 block of Sheridan Road, Lake Bluff, was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 12 and charged with battery following an intoxicated argument with a friend connected to the purchase of a pizza.

A 51-year-old Waukegan woman was arrested around 6:15 p.m. on Jan. 16 and charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop in the area of Green Bay Road and Sunset Place.

A 19-year-old Waukegan man was issued a citation for possession of cannabis around 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 16 following a traffic stop in the area of Western and Vine avenues.

A 22-year-old Beach Park woman was arrested at 12:10 a.m. on Jan. 17 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop at Route 41 and Gagee Lane.

Danny P. Stigall, 51, of the 1000 block of 44th Street, Kenosha, Wisconsin, was arrested around 10 a.m. on Jan. 19 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs after police responded to a one-car crash involving a silver sedan that drove off the road and into a ditch. Stigall was taken to the hospital and charged after officers believed he was impaired after consuming an undetermined quantity of an opioid before crashing the vehicle.

A 23-year-old Waukegan man was cited for speeding and possession of cannabis following a traffic stop around 6 p.m. on Jan. 20 in the area of Westleigh Road and Western Avenue following a traffic stop on a car driving 49 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Richard T. Christoph, 61, of the 700 block of Oakwood Avenue, Lake Forest, was arrested on Jan. 24 on a warrant following an investigation into reports that he had been hosting parties where juveniles were provided alcohol. Police also determined a battery had taken place, and Christoph was charged with one count each of purchasing alcohol for a minor, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and three counts of battery.

Richard W. Chuk, 34, of the 500 block of West Everett Road, Lake Forest, was arrested around 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 27 after police were called to his block of residence for a report that Chuk was banging on his door and making threats. Chuk was charged with disorderly conduct and officers learned he also had an active arrest warrant to failure to appear in Lake County Court.
