Former Probation Officer Pleads Not Guilty to Child Pornography Charges

Matthew Goebel is accused of inappropriate behavior with two minors at the Depke Juvenile Justice Center.

A former Lake County probation officer has plead not guilty to charges he persuaded an inmate at the Depke Juvenile Justice Center in Vernon Hills to pose for a lewd photograph.

Matthew Goebel, 26, of Morton Grove, faces charges of child pornography, indecent solicitation of a child, grooming and official misconduct - according to the Chicago Tribune. The indictment against him includes accusations he acted inappropriately with two inmates.

In one case, it was reported he had promised a young boy to pose for the photograph in exchange for use of a telephone. He was fired once an investigation into the matter began.

He could face up to 15 years if convicted of the most serious charge. He is free after posting 10 percent of a $150,000 bail.
