“Self-published books are giving all authors a bad rap,” says local author and marketer Catherine Driscoll. Between 600,000 and 1,000,000 books are self-published every year in the U.S. alone, and on average, they sell less than 250 copies each.
While some self published books are wonderful, informative, fabulously inventive books, others are distracting compilations of typos, bad ideas and poor execution. The reason self-published books sell so poorly is a combination of poor execution and a lack of marketing savvy.

“We all have at least one great book in us,” believes Driscoll, “but many of us don’t have the knowledge to self-publish them well, or the time, contacts or credentials to have our stories picked up by the traditional publishers. Self-published books can be just as successful as traditionally published books if they’re created professionally and supported with robust and engaging marketing.”
Driscoll, President of RED Communications LLC, has spent the past four years learning about self publishing and bringing her own books to life. She is the author of the successful illustrated children’s book The Town Turkey, about the famous Lake Bluff turkey, and co-author of Knowledge Is Power: What Every Woman Should Know About Breast Cancer.

In this free seminar, you’ll learn: how the self-publishing process works from start to finish; how to market and sell your book; how to edit and professionally design your book; how to purchase unique ISBN numbers and how many you may need; and how to distribute your book through Amazon and to bookstores across the country.
“The self-publishing world has become exceptionally complicated,” Driscoll says. “Your understanding of distribution channels and marketing tools is critical to getting your book published and viewed by the public.”
