Highland Park Man Critically Injured In 3-Car Crash In Mettawa

Authorities said the 21-year-old driver lost control of his car and drove into oncoming traffic Friday morning on Route 60.

METTAWA, IL — Three people were taken to local hospitals after they were involved in a multi-vehicle traffic crash in Mettawa, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

The crash took place shortly on Route 60 east of St. Mary's Road before 7:45 a.m., when deputies arrived to find three heavily damaged cars, according to the sheriff's office.

The preliminary results of a crash investigation indicates that a 21-year-old Highland Park man lost control of a Hyundai sedan while driving west on Route 60, possibly due to weather conditions.

The motorist crossed into eastbound lanes of traffic, where it was struck by an oncoming Jeep Grand Cherokee being driven by a 24-year-old Mundelein woman. Her car then struck another eastbound Jeep, which was driven by a 60-year-old Highwood man.

The Highland Park man suffered critical, life-threatening injuries in the crash. He was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, according to the sheriff's office.

The Mundelein woman was taken to Condell and the Highwood man was taken to Lake Forest Hospital. Neither's injuries were considered life-threatening.
