Kids Explore Special Interests in North Suburban YMCA Summer Camps

Specialty camps spark creativity and discovery, with all the benefits of YMCA camp program.

With summer right around the corner, registration is filling up for the North Suburban YMCA’s wide variety of day camps for children in pre-K through junior high. In addition to the Y’s popular general-interest camps, kids are looking forward to participating in their favorite activities in the Y’s specialty programs. These targeted camps focus on specific kid-friendly themes with innovative projects, while still enjoying the many benefits of the overall NSYMCA camp program.

“The Y’s specialty camps appeal to children who have particular passions, as well as to kids who want to learn a new skill or discover a new talent,” notes Frank Lenardi, NSYMCA Camp Director. “By offering specialty camps in short one-week sessions, children are able to bring variety into their summer experience and explore new interests. At the same time, they’re part of our larger NSYMCA camp community and enjoy all the advantages that our facility and staff have to offer.”

For Summer 2015, the Y’s specialty camps include programs in cooking, Lego building, art, dance, and photography. Children who enjoy making crafts will bring home masterpieces from Imagination Station or Project Create programs, while young detectives will put their deductive reasoning skills to the test in CSI Y-Camp. All programs take place at the North Suburban Y, 2705 Techny Road in Northbrook.

“Y programs are unique because of the quality, flexibility, and value we offer to families,” says Lenardi. “The Y offers half day and full day camps, before- and after-camp childcare, and even transportation from Northbrook summer schools for afternoon camps. Our programs are led by highly-qualified staff members, and we make camp affordable with payment plans and financial assistance opportunities. Parents know that their children will have a great camp experience at the Y in a safe, supportive environment.”

Summer camps at the North Suburban YMCA begin June 15. The complete Summer Camp Guide is available on the Y’s website, www.nsymca.org. NSYMCA Summer Camps are supported by a generous grant from Potash Corp. For more information, call 847 272 7250.
