Lake Bluff Home Destroyed By Fire

No one was hurt, but the blaze spread through the two-story home a block from the lake too quickly for firefighters to save it.

LAKE BLUFF, IL — A million-dollar mansion a few houses from Lake Michigan was completely destroyed by a fire in Lake Bluff early Tuesday. No one was injured in the blaze, which tore through the home in the 400 block of Arbor Drive shortly after 2:30 a.m., according to the village.

A Lake Bluff cop was first to arrive on the scene and was able to confirm that a visiting family member of the homeowner was the only person home and had gotten out of the burning house.

Within moments, the entire second story of the house was engulfed in flames, according to Lake Bluff police.

Lake Bluff Fire Department and Knollwood Fire Department were the first to arrive on scene in the Lakewood Estates subdivision before multiple nearby departments were called in to help around 2:45 a.m.

Firefighters from Lake Forest, Libertyville, Gurnee, Countryside, Great Lakes, Mundelein, Zion, Waukegan, Long Grove and Grsayslake assisted. Also on scene: Highland Park, Glenview and Round Lake, according to a release.

“Unfortunately, this fire progressed so rapidly it will be a total loss,” Lake Bluff Fire Chief David Graf said, “despite the quick response and great efforts of all of these departments.”

The blaze was extinguished by 5 a.m., according to police.

An investigation into the origin and cause of the fire is underway.
