Lake Bluff Library Will Be 4th of July Parade Marshal

Committee selects longtime parade participant to lead "Generations of Freedom" theme this year.

LAKE BLUFF, IL - It may be months away, but the village of Lake Bluff is already thinking summer.

The Lake Bluff Fourth of July Parade Committee announced this week that the Lake Bluff Library will be the Grand Marshal of the Parade this year, which will evoke the theme of “Generations of Freedom.”

The theme and Marshal, according to a news release, “pay homage to the roots of Lake Bluff, to the men, women and children who work and live here, frequent its shops, play in the Village Green on warm summer days and gather for picnics at Sunrise Beach.”

The Lake Bluff Library has been a part of the parade - an annual tradition since 1911 - for years.

“ We are so honored that the library has been chosen as the 2016 Parade Marshal. We take so much pride in our work in the community,” Lake Bluff Library Director Eric Bailey said. “We love to see the kids who frequent the children’s department riding in the children’s parade, and the adults who partake in our programs enjoying parties with their families.”

The Lake Bluff Fourth of July Parade Committee, a nonprofit organization, sponsors the annual Lake Bluff Fourth of July Parade, with assistance from American Legion Post 510.

“Everyone has their parade story; their first memories of the event, the years of family reunions, memories of the Mowers and marchers and band music,” said Committee President Deb Dintruff. “This small town is made up of a mix of families who are relatively new and names that are an integral part of the fabric of this place.”
