Michael J. Leider Jr., age 54, after a painful battle with cancer, passed away on May 24, 2015. He was born in Bloomington, IL, raised in Deerfield and lived in Lake Bluff for most of his adult life. Michael was the oldest son of Jim & Peggy Leider and will be missed greatly by his extended family. He is preceded in death by his mother Peggy and survived by his children, Michael and Colleen, and his father Jim, former wife Caroline, his brother Mark (Kathryn) and sisters Mary (Mike) Barss and Meg (Mark) Kreuter as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He devoted his life and love to his children and career.
Michael graduated from Deerfield High School in 1978 and from The University of Illinois with a degree in Ornamental Horticulture in 1982. He was a member Sigma Nu Fraternity. After graduation, he studied and worked in the Netherlands, then returned home to further develop his skills and experience in the floral trade. Over the years, Michael developed many treasured friendships through his profession in the green industry. Through his work as a wholesale plant supplier, he was a great contributor to many special projects at the Chicago Botanical Gardens - most recently he sourced all of the plants for February Orchid Show.
Michael was a lover of the outdoors and animals. A real nature aficionado, he was often found outside working in his garden or building a great bonfire. Music, camping, hiking, skiing & canoeing were among some of his favorite activities.
Michael’s vast circle of friends and family gathered around him in his final weeks to show their love and support for their dear friend. To share a condolence or memory, please visit wenbanfh.com.
