Lake Forest Alderman Resigns After Selling Home

LAKE FOREST, IL — Lake Forest Ald. Tim Newman submitted his resignation last week after selling his 2nd Ward home. Newman, who is moving within the city as he approaches retirement, sought to find a place to rent to remain in his ward but has ended up deciding to rent a home in a different ward.

Newman is a wealth management adviser who has lived in Lake Forest for 25 years, according to a biography on the city's website. He previously was president of the Lake Forest Caucus, the nonpartisan community group that recruits and endorses candidates for local office, and served on the Lake Forest Plan Commission for six years before joining the City Council four years ago. He has since been re-elected twice.

"Before I move on, I want to recognize the quality, dedication and just outstanding quality of the city staff, top to bottom. These people are dedicated, they go the extra yard, overtime. The beach project is just the latest in a very long line of outstanding staff contributions and achievements to our community," Newman said at his final meeting as alderman Sept. 3.

Lake Forest Mayor George Pandaleon said his departure was unfortunate news for the city. He praised Newman for his work on resolving the city's pension situation and making improvements to the Deerpath Golf Course. Aldermen also praised Newman's work on the recent search for a new city manager ahead of the hiring of Jason Wicha.

"These are legacies that will serve the city extraordinary well for a very long time," Pandaleon said.

The mayor said he plans to name Newman's replacement soon and city staff are looking into how Newman might continue to serve on city committees, according to the Lake Forester. His pick will be subject to confirmation by the City Council. Residents of the 2nd ward, which includes the southeast quadrant of Lake Forest, will have the opportunity to vote for their representative next year.
