Lake Forest Country Day School's Fine Arts Department Finishes off the Year in Style with Eighth-Grade Play and Eighth-Grade Art Gallery!
Last Thursday night, eighth-grade drama students, under the leadership of drama teacher Nicky Pitman, put on a unique and hilarious rendition of the Shakespeare classic Hamlet by adding contemporary comedy and wit to create Shakespeare Scrambled with a Side of Ham(let). Each student reflected the energetic charisma with which Nicky Pitman teaches her drama classes as they acted with expression, passion, and contagious humor, casting the audience into roaring laughter on numerous occasions.
According to Assistant Head of School Bob Bullard, “the artistic excellence that resonated within [the PAC’s walls] was extraordinary, and the big smile on everyone’s faces of those who were able to attend was indeed reflective of the joy of accomplishment felt by kids, parents, and faculty.”
Art comes in many forms and expressions at LFCDS, and in addition to the play on Thursday, Kirsten Anderson set up an eighth-grade art gallery for viewing. According to Scott Baeseman “each of the student’s personalities was clear and evident in their work.” Each student stood proudly by his or her pieces of art, ranging in medium and size, and confidently explained the meaning behind each item to visiting parents and teachers.
With the Band and Chorus concerts proving to be a rousing success earlier in the month, the eighth-grade play and art gallery provided a fantastic ending to another informative and enriching Fine Arts annual experience at the School. The entire Fine Arts Department is to be commended for their hard work in maintaining LFCDS as a reputable place for students interested in pursuing the arts in a meaningful and proactive way. There is no doubt that many of the eighth-grade students who are moving on to secondary education next year will continue to flourish in the arts at the next level, and beyond.
