Lake Forest High School Ranked No. 11 In Illinois

LAKE FOREST, IL — Lake Forest High School was ranked the 11th top high school in Illinois and No. 292 in the nation by U.S. News and World Report.

The approximately 1,500-student high school has an Advanced Placement participation rate of 71 percent, with 65 percent of students passing at least one AP exam, according to U.S. News.

Mathematics proficiency is 75 percent, reading proficiency is 82 percent and the graduation rate at LFHS is 98 percent.

According to U.S. News, the rankings aim to compare how well public schools prepare students for college-level work and teach students basic skills.

Lake Forest High School's No. 11 state ranking marks a decline from 2021's No. 7 in Illinois ranking — but it is higher than LFHS fared in 2020, when it was listed as 18th in the state and 411th in the nation.

This year's rankings used data from the 2019-20 school year, which was adjusted to compensate for the effects of COVID-19.

Most schools closed before state testing in the spring of 2020, and federal education officials granted a waiver to skip testing that year, so U.S. News used assessment data from the prior three years.

In Illinois, the top five schools in the rankings were selective enrollment high schools in Chicago Public Schools, with the No. 6 school a selective enrollment suburban school — Proviso Math and Science Academy.

Among suburban public high schools that accept all residents, Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire was top-ranked, followed by Vernon Hills High School, Hinsdale Central High School, New Trier Township High School and then Lake Forest High School.
