Lake Forest Police Chief Retires From Post He's Held Since 2012
Deputy Chief Karl Walldorf is expected to take over when Chief James Held steps down June 3.

LAKE FOREST, IL—Police Chief James Held will retire from his post in June, a position he's had for close to four years, and Deputy Chief Karl Walldorf will take over as the head of the Lake Forest Police Department, the Daily North Shore reports.

Held, who has been a member of the Lake Forest police force for more than 30 years, was appointed chief Sept. 17, 2012, after serving in the position on an acting basis for a few months. He succeeded Chief Joseph Buerger.

Walldorf started with the department in 1994, and he has worked his way up from patrolman to detective and eventually to deputy chief, according to his Linkedin page.
The City Council is expected to approve Walldorf's appointment and swear him in as the new chief during its June 6 meeting, the North Shore reports.
