Lake Forest Woman Decorates the White House for Christmas
Alison Buck learned of the honor through a surprise from her sister.

LAKE FOREST, IL - A Lake Forest woman got quite the surprise during a Face Time call with her sister last month.
Alison Buck, a Lake Forest native and owner of home-based Alison Buck Floral Design Business, was told by her sister, Erika Kelly she had been selected as one of 50 or so winners of the holiday decoration program at the White House.

Buck used her florist skills help with the Christmas decorations from Nov. 27 to Dec. 3, according to a Daily North Shore feature.
She was nominated secretly by her sister, a producer for KQED, a National Public Radio station is San Francisco.

“Floral design started as therapy as Buck recovered from a brain aneurysm she suffered five years ago... Buck recovered and two years after she was stricken she was in business for herself... Learning to arrange flowers was not only a critical part of her recovery, but a transformative experience.”
“She has a very moving story,” Kelly said of her sister. “She has been through a lot and had a lot of struggles. I felt her floral design would fit it with the (White House) project.”
