Highwood Man Who Drove On Sidewalks Had Three Times Legal Alcohol Limit: Blotter

LAKE FOREST, IL — The following information comes from Lake Forest and Lake Bluff police and Lake County court records as a record of those arrested by police. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt, and criminal charges, which represent merely accusations by the state, are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Circuit Clerk of Courts. All persons named are innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Leslie A. Kompare, 53, of the 300 block of Cook Avenue, Libertyville, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. on Feb. 13 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop on Thorntree Lane at Route 176. An officer reported he pulled her over after witnessing her speeding on northbound Route 41 and making wide turns in a GMC SUV with Ohio plates, which turned out to be an Enterprise rental car. During field sobriety tests, police reported Kompare admitted drinking earlier in the evening, demonstrated a dozen clues of impairment and declined to provide a breath sample. She was also issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, improper lane usage and speeding 76 mph in a 55 mph zone.
A 61-year-old Waukegan man was arrested around 12:40 p.m. on March 11 and charged with driving with a revoked license after he drove a Ford Explorer over the center line and toward an officer, who reported she had to take evasive action to avoid a head-on collision. He was also issued citations for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol and for driving an uninsured vehicle.

A 26-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested around 12:45 a.m. on March 15 following a traffic stop on Route 41 at Westleigh Road and charged with driving with a suspended license. He was also issued citations for driving without insurance and speeding 84 mph in a 55 mph zone.
Casey J. Cronkhite, 40, of the 1300 block of Shetland Drive, Grayslake, was arrested around 10 p.m. March 16 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following an encounter with police in the area of East Sheridan Place and Evanston Avenue. Police said he declined field sobriety testing and had an open bottle of scotch in the glove compartment and a white bottle containing a handwritten label and multiple white pills in the center console. Officers reported he was at times argumentative and disrespectful, including asking a sergeant to "meet him outside of lock-up where there are no cameras." He was also issued citations for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver and operating a vehicle while using an electronic communication device.

Antonio Gonzalez, 46, of the 200 block of Jeffreys Place, Highwood, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater and driving without a valid license following a traffic stop in the area of Green Bay Road and Park Lane. Police reported they found him after getting a call about an erratic driver swerving into oncoming traffic and driving on the sidewalk. During the traffic stop, he smelled strongly of alcohol and admitted drinking before driving, police said. At the station he provided a breath sample indicating his breath alcohol concentration was 0.258 – more than three times the legal limit for alcohol intoxication.
A 39-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 9:30 p.m. on March 24 and charged with driving with a suspended license after police pulled him over for a traffic violation near Route 60 and Waukegan Road.
Kelly Jo Matuszewski, 49, of the 1300 block of Western Avenue, Lake Forest, was arrested around 1 a.m. on March 26 near the intersection of Route 60 and Ridge Road and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and DUI with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08. Police said she acknowledged drinking before driving and smelled like alcohol. At the station she provided a breath sample indicating a BAC of 0.224, more than two and a half times the legal limit. She was also issued citations for improper lane usage and expired registration.
