Naperville Parolee Charged With Burglarizing Lake Forest College

A man on parole for stealing laptops from a store is accused of stealing a laptop and cash from dorm rooms.

LAKE FOREST, IL — A Naperville man charged with burglarizing a Lake Forest College dormitory is due back in court this week for a preliminary hearing, records show. Police said he stole more than $2,500 worth of property and cash after slipping in behind a student and getting into more than half a dozen dorm rooms on the afternoon of Feb. 10 at Moore Hall.

Harold Wilbourn, 30, of the 300 block of Ogden Avenue, is charged with one count of residential burglary and five counts of felony theft, according to police and court records. Four of the theft charges are aggravated due to prior convictions.

Security cameras at the door captures images of a man in the dorm authorities believe to be Wilbourn, and police posted the images on social media and shared them with neighboring agencies.

Police said several people recognized him, and an arrest warrant was issued March 10. The warrant unit of the Lake County Sheriff's Office located Wilbourn and took him into custody March 25, police said.

At the time of his arrest, Wilbourn had been on parole after serving more than three years of his sentence for a 2016 conviction in Cook County on two counts of burglary and one count of theft of more than $10,000.

Police said he had a prior arrest for the theft of Apple laptops from an Google Store. An Apple laptop valued at $1,700 and about $1,000 in cash were reported stolen from the the Lake Forest College dorm.

On Saturday, Wilbourn posted the $7,500 cash portion of his bail and was released from Lake County Jail ahead of his next court appearance, according to the sheriff's office.

Wilbourn is being represented by an attorney from the Lake County Public Defender's Office, according to court records. He is due back in court for a preliminary hearing Friday.
