NSWRD Begins Sunrise Beach Revetment Project
Project will help to protect Lake Bluff's valuable asset
The North Shore Water Reclamation District (NSWRD) Board of Trustees voted unanimously to award a contract to John Keno & Co. to begin a revetment project at Sunrise Beach in Lake Bluff. Tom Swarthout, Ward 4 Trustee (Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, and North Chicago), has been working closely with the Village, to find a way to protect the District’s Pumping Station as well as the beach, a valued public asset, from high lake levels and damage from severe storms.
“I was gratified to receive the support of fellow Trustees to commit appropriate funds to save and, over time, enhance Sunrise Beach,” stated Tom Swarthout. “The Board exercised an option to spend additional resources to extend the groin from the Pumping Station, to increase sand collection and enhance the existing beach. We’re pleased to participate in efforts to preserve this priceless Village asset.”
The NSWRD has been working closely with the Village of Lake Bluff and the Lake Bluff Park District to find solutions that would not only preserve the existing character of the beach but would ensure its future. This portion of the master plan is projected to be completed by the end of the year. For more information about the role of the NSWRD, please call 847.623.6060.
