Police Chase Stolen Car Into Lake Forest Subdivision

Driver on the loose, passenger in custody after chase down Sheridan: Police

LAKE FOREST, IL — Police are searching for the driver of a stolen car that was chased down Sheridan Road and wrecked before its two occupants fled on foot inside the Villa Turicum subdivision. North Chicago Police pursued a black Acura MDX through Lake Bluff and into Lake Forest around 4:15 p.m. on Saturday before Lake Forest Police intercepted the chase at Western and Westleigh.

The fleeing car sideswiped a stopped, occupied landscape truck that was parked at the intersection, Lake Forest Cmdr. Craig Lepkowski said. No injuries were reported from that accident, and the chase continued.

Flames and smoke emanated from the underside of the Acura as it sped away southbound on Sheridan before turning east onto McCormick and entering the Villa Turicum subdivision. Both the driver and passenger fled on foot from the 500 block of Turicum road, police said.

Police set up a perimeter with a radius of about a quarter mile, Lepkowski said. Other law enforcement agencies, including the Illinois State Police, Lake County Sheriff and Highland Park, Bannockburn, Deerfield and Lake Bluff police departments participated. After a foot chase, police apprehended a man they said was the passenger of the stolen car.

Tyler M. Miller-Alford, 20, of the 1500 block of Jackson in North Chicago, was arrested and charged with felony obstructing justice after being taken into custody on the bike path bridge adjacent to the Fort Sheridan Reserve Center, police said.

The driver eluded police and has not yet been located. Police described him as in his 20's, African-American and wearing a white t-shirt and jeans.

Lepkowski said he had most likely already escaped the immediate area. Residents, he said, should take normal precautions by locking their homes and vehicles.
